2. Principles
We process personal data only to the extent necessary to operate this website and provide our content, or based on your consent. The legal basis is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Telecommunications-Digital-Services-Data-Protection Act (TDDDG). Data is shared with third parties only in the cases described here. We do not sell data and do not engage in profiling.
3. Hosting
This website is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany, on servers located in Germany. We have a data processing agreement with IONOS under Art. 28 GDPR. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation).
4. Server Log Files
When you visit the website, the hosting provider automatically processes technically necessary data transmitted by your browser: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referrer URL, browser type, and operating system. This data is used solely for technical security and error analysis, is not merged with other data, and is deleted after a short period. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
5. SSL/TLS Encryption
For security reasons, this website uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognize it by “https://” and the lock icon in your browser.
6. Consent Management (Cookie Banner)
On your first visit, we ask which functions you agree to. We store your selection in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) so that the banner does not appear on every page load. This is permitted without consent under Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG, since it is strictly necessary to carry out your request. To document your consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR), we log on our server a random identifier, the categories selected, the date, the time, and the version of the banner — without your IP address or any other personal details. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR in conjunction with Art. 7(1) GDPR.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future via the “Cookie Settings” link at the bottom of every page.
7. Visitor Statistics with Matomo
Only if you consent to the “Statistics” category do we use the open-source software Matomo to record how our website is used (e.g., pages visited, time spent, referring page, device type, approximate region). Matomo runs exclusively on our own server at IONOS in Germany; the data is not transmitted to third parties. Matomo does not set any cookies on our site; your IP address is shortened before storage so that no inference can be drawn about you.
The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG. The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for analysis. You can withdraw your consent at any time via “Cookie Settings.”
8. Third-Party Media
We load content from third-party providers (e.g., videos from YouTube, posts from Instagram and TikTok, product images from Amazon) only if you have consented to the “External Media” category. Only then is data such as your IP address transmitted to the respective provider; the provider may set cookies and process data in third countries such as the United States. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG.
9. Affiliate Links (Advertising Links)
Some links on this website are advertising links from affiliate programs, such as the Amazon Associates program (Amazon Europe Core S.à r.l., 38 Avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg). They are marked with an asterisk (*). If you make a purchase after clicking such a link, we receive a commission; the price for you does not change. No data is transmitted to the partner on our website itself. Only after you click through to the retailer’s site can that retailer set cookies to attribute the referral. The privacy policy of the respective retailer applies in that case.
10. Our Social Media Presence
We operate profiles on Instagram and Facebook (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd., Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ireland), TikTok (TikTok Technology Limited, 10 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, D02 T380, Ireland), and, where applicable, YouTube (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) and Pinterest (Pinterest Europe Ltd., Palmerston House, Fenian Street, Dublin 2, Ireland). On this website, these services are embedded only as simple links; simply visiting our site does not transmit any data to these networks.
If you visit our profiles, these networks process your data according to their own privacy policies. For the statistical analysis of our Facebook and Instagram page (“Insights”), we are joint controllers together with Meta (Art. 26 GDPR); the corresponding agreement is provided by Meta at facebook.com/legal/terms/page_controller_addendum. We only receive aggregated, anonymous statistics. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our interest in communicating with interested parties).
11. Internal Connection to Our Own Accounts
We use the official APIs of Meta, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest exclusively for our own accounts: to publish our own content or upload it as a draft, and to retrieve statistics for our own posts. No data from other users is collected, stored, or shared in this process.
YouTube API Services: Our internal tool “LAGEBEREIT Jarvis” uses Google’s YouTube API Services. It only uploads videos we produce ourselves to our own channel @lagebereit — always after manual approval — and reads that channel’s metrics (e.g., views, subscriber count, video statistics) for an internal report. Only the login credentials for our own channel and aggregated metrics are stored; these are kept on our own server in Germany, are not shared with third parties, and are updated or deleted at least every 30 days. Google’s YouTube Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy also apply. Access can be revoked at any time via Google Security Settings.
12. Contact by Email
If you contact us by email, we process your details (email address, name, message content) to respond to your inquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual inquiries, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Your data will be deleted once it is no longer needed and no statutory retention obligations apply.
13. Your Rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to withdraw any consent given with future effect (Art. 7(3)). You may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR). To do so, please contact the email address listed above.
14. Right to Lodge a Complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is: Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen (Data Protection Officer for the German state of Lower Saxony), Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover.
15. Changes
We will update this privacy policy as soon as new features are added (e.g., a newsletter or shop). The version published here at any given time applies.
Consent Banner
On your first visit, we ask whether you consent to audience measurement (statistics) and external media. We save your choice in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) so the banner doesn’t appear on every page view. As proof of consent (Art. 7(1) GDPR), we store an anonymous log on our server consisting of a random identifier, the category chosen, the timestamp, and the banner version — without any IP address. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via the “Privacy Settings” link in the footer. Legal basis: Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG (German Telecommunications-Digital Services Data Protection Act) and Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR.
Matomo (Traffic Analysis)
Only if you consent in the banner to the “Statistics” category do we use the open-source software Matomo to understand which guides are being read. Matomo runs on our own web space at IONOS SE in Germany; data is not shared with third parties. Matomo operates on our site without cookies, and IP addresses are shortened. Information collected includes pages viewed, time, duration of visit, referring website, device type, browser, and operating system. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG (German Telecommunications and Digital Services Data Protection Act)), which you can withdraw at any time via the privacy settings. Without your consent, no tracking takes place.
Amazon Associates Program
We participate in the affiliate program of Amazon Europe S.à r.l. and Amazon EU S.à r.l. (5 Rue Plaetis, L-2338 Luxembourg), an affiliate advertising program that allows websites to earn advertising fees. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate links are marked with * and “Ad.” Simply visiting our pages does not transmit any data to Amazon; we do not embed any Amazon scripts, images, or widgets. Only when you click an affiliate link are you redirected to Amazon. Amazon then learns that you came from our website (affiliate ID in the link) and may use cookies or similar technologies to attribute a commission. Amazon itself is responsible for this; you can find more information in Amazon’s privacy policy: amazon.de/datenschutz. We only receive aggregated reports from Amazon on clicks and sales, with no information about individual persons.
Newsletter
Purpose and content. If you sign up for our newsletter (the “Status Report”), we’ll send you an email roughly once a week with preparedness tips, notes on new articles, and gear comparisons on lagebereit.de. For this, we process your email address and — only if you provide it — your first name, so we can address you personally in the email. Providing your first name is optional.
Legal basis. Sending the newsletter is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 7(2) No. 2 of the German Act Against Unfair Competition, UWG). You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before your withdrawal.
Double opt-in and logging. After you submit the form, you’ll receive an email with a confirmation link. Only once you click that link are you added to the mailing list. This ensures that no one can sign up someone else’s address. To be able to prove that you gave consent, we store: the time of sign-up and confirmation, the wording and version of the consent text, the page on which you signed up, and an encrypted checksum (hash) of your IP address at the time of sign-up and confirmation. We do not store your actual IP address for this purpose. The legal basis for this logging is our legitimate interest in being able to prove lawful consent (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in conjunction with Art. 7(1) GDPR). To protect against automated mass sign-ups (spam bots), we also briefly track how many sign-ups come from the same (hashed) IP address; this count is automatically discarded after one hour.
Thank-you checklist. After you confirm your sign-up, we offer you our checklist “The 10-Day Emergency Check” as a downloadable PDF. The download link contains a random identifier so that only confirmed subscribers can access the file. When the file is accessed, the web server processes the usual access data (see “Server Log Files”); no further analysis takes place. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter, the link will stop working.
Delivery. We do not use an external newsletter service. Subscriber data is stored in our website’s database, and emails are sent via our own web server hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. If emails are sent via an SMTP outgoing mail server configured in our system, that too is a mail server operated by IONOS SE in Germany. We have a data processing agreement with IONOS SE under Art. 28 GDPR.
No open tracking, clicks only anonymized. Our newsletters do not contain tracking pixels. We do not measure whether or when you open an email, and we do not create user profiles. The links in the email lead exclusively to lagebereit.de and carry generic campaign tags (e.g., “utm_source=newsletter”), but no identifier that personally identifies you. If you’ve consented to audience measurement with Matomo on our website (see the “Matomo” section), we only see there, in aggregate, how many visits came via the newsletter — not who clicked.
Retention period. We automatically delete unconfirmed sign-ups after 7 days. As long as you receive the newsletter, we store your data. After you unsubscribe, we immediately delete your first name and block the address from further mailings. We then retain the email address and proof of consent and withdrawal for up to three years in order to defend ourselves against legal claims (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, standard statute of limitations); after that, they are automatically deleted. Upon request, we will also delete your data earlier, provided no retention obligation stands in the way.
Withdrawal and unsubscribing. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time: via the “Unsubscribe from newsletter” link at the bottom of every email, via your email program’s unsubscribe function, or with a brief message to info@lagebereit.de. You can find your further rights (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority) earlier in this privacy policy.
